Our laboratory does not directly hire postdoctoral researchers. However, we actively support highly motivated candidates who wish to apply for competitive postdoctoral fellowship programs offered by the Japanese government and related institutions. These include, but are not limited to:

Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan

The program provides an opportunity to conduct collaborative research for young overseas researchers under the guidance of their hosts in universities and other research institutions in Japan.
The selection process for Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan (Standard) is conducted through two distinct channels: Open Calls and Nominations. The former begins with applications from the heads of Japanese universities or research institutions wishing to invite foreign researchers and requires a selection process to designate Fellows, while the latter designates Fellows through recommendations from overseas nominating authorities. 

Duration: 12-24 months

Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (Overseas nominating authorities)

The program provides an opportunity to conduct collaborative research for young overseas researchers under the guidance of their hosts in universities and other research institutions in Japan. Selection through overseas nominating authorities has different rules and deadlines, but the candidates are selected by a national committee, which often results in less competition.

Duration: 12-24 months

Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (Short Term PE)

TThe program provides PhD students or PhD researchers in the Europe and North America with opportunities to conduct collaborative research under the guidance of their hosts in universities and other Japanese institutions for a relatively short period of time. A person who has never engaged in research at universities etc. in Japan would be most preferable.
The selection process for Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan (Short-term (PE)) is conducted through two distinct channels: Open Calls and Nominations. The former begins with applications from the heads of Japanese universities or research institutions wishing to invite foreign researchers and requires a selection process to designate Fellows, while the latter designates Fellows through recommendations from overseas nominating authorities.

Duration: 1-12 months

Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (Short Term PA)

To provide opportunities for pre-/post-doctoral researchers from the ASEAN member countries and African countries to conduct cooperative research under the guidance of their hosts with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions.
This program is intended to help advance the overseas researchers’ research activities while advancing science and promoting internationalization in Japan.
The selection procedure for Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan (Short-term (PA)) is by Nominations only, where Fellows are appointed based on recommendations from overseas nominating authorities. The procedure of Open Calls, which begins with applications from the heads of Japanese universities or research institutions wishing to invite foreign researchers and requires a selection process to designate Fellows, is not implemented.

Duration: 1-12 months

Invitational Fellowship for Research in Japan

The programs provide excellent researchers from other countries an opportunity to conduct collaborative research, discussions, and opinion exchanges with researchers in Japan. These programs are intended to help advance the overseas researchers’ research activities while advancing science and promoting internationalization in Japan.

JSPS Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan consists of two options of Long-term, and Short-term. Grantees are selected by going through the selection process following the submission of applications by a host researcher in Japan who wishes to invite a researcher from overseas via the head of their university or institution. The recruitment and selection for the Long-term program is announced and conducted once a year, and twice a year for the Short-term.

Duration: 2-10 months (Long), 14-60 days (short)
